This study aims to assess the effects of rapid urbanization on the environment and social inequality in three major cities of Pakistan: Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The study will examine locals' attitudes, experiences, and perceptions of environmental change and social inequality in these cities. A stratified random sample of 250 urban dwellers was carefully selected based on age, gender, income, and education to guarantee diverse representation. A systematic survey comprising both closed-ended and open-ended questions on topics such as resource consumption, housing instability, urban heat islands, greenhouse gas emissions, and service accessibility was used to gather data. Increased greenhouse gas emissions, urban heat islands, resource consumption, social inequality, housing insecurity, and infrastructural strain were all found to be significantly positively correlated with urbanization. These social and environmental problems have been shown to be powerful indicators of urbanization. This underscores the need for implementing sustainable urban policies to address these pressing challenges.
